Deficit/debt dilemma is way uglier than in the 90s

During Bill Clinton's presidency, budget deficits turned to a surplus. President Obama faces a much bigger deficit reduction task. How did that Clinton-era deficit reduction happen? And why does today’s deficit dilemma seem so much tougher to solve?
